Olympic Turin is the first city in the world to be in 3D on the Internet, with all winter games ways and sites.
The Digital Interactive scale model (P.I.D.) is fully realized with Open Source technology.The model lets the viewer three-dimensionally explore the whole city, allowing to zoom until single streets and walking around.
The main sights of Turin are very precisely and realistically represented and Olympic areas show the suggested ways to reach them.
P.I.D. is not a close software but a platform, which can be used in a number of contexts and it can be expanded and changed at will.
Turin interactive model was realized, with the sponsorship of the City of Turin and Ultramundum Foundation, to let all the world get inside the Olympic games and to introduce to everybody the city hosting them.
This technology allows the fast download of complex virtual environments directly on its own PC. P.I.D. is freely downloadable.
Thanks to this smart initiative, Turin will be accessible from every house or office in the world.
