MailMan is a mailing list manager, written in Python and with a web interface.
The mailing list is an e-mail address list dedicated to a topic which is of common interest for all members. It works in a very easy way: you send an e-mail to an address which authomatically resend a copy to all members.

Born in 1996, at the Virginia University, as a personal project by John Viega, it has been taken by the Python.org team, but it has reached the great audience interest only when it became part of the GNU project by Richard Stallman.

Nowadays MailMan is a grown and complete list manager, with a great number of functions, as autorepliers and gateways to interface the news servers.

It has been created as an alternative to Majordomo, it is more powerful and easier to use, particularly for the non-expert users. The installation is simple and it works almost immediately.

MailMan gives a web page to each mailing list and it allows the users to enter, edit or delete its own options directly on the web, without using complex syntax. Even the list administrator can manage its mailing list via web.

It allows to personalize the list with the insertion of text or html templates, realizing an integration with graphics and site style.
